‘One True Loves’ Explores Romantic Love And Loss
Another great book from Taylor Jenkins Reid 😍
I don’t usually reach for romance novels, but after discovering that Phillipa Soo and Simu Liu were cast as two of the three leads in the movie adaptation of this book, I knew I had to read it. (And of course the fact that Taylor Jenkins Reid wrote this novel was also a big reason.)
The plot for One True Loves wasn’t as intricate as some of Reid’s more popular books like Daisy Jones and the Six or The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, but I didn’t mind the simplicity of the story. I still loved following these character’s journeys and finding out how they would navigate their impossible situation. And while I found the ending predictable, the heartwarming romance made up for it.
I also especially liked how Reid didn’t gloss over the themes of grief and loss. They are very much apparent in the main character Emma’s life and I enjoyed reading about her experience of how she processed this and learned to move on.
