‘The Maid’ Is A Straightforward Murder Mystery Told From A Unique Perspective

When it comes to vacation reads, I tend to go for books that are light, quick and fun. That usually ends up being some sort of rom-com, but this time I found myself drawn to a quirky mystery.

Enter: The Maid. This book seemed like a great choice for my quick escape to Maui last month because of its interesting premise. Of course, the fact that it was a New York Times bestseller and written by a Canadian didn’t hurt either. The story follows maid Molly Gray who discovers one of her wealthy hotel guests dead in his bed one day and ends up getting caught up in the murder mystery.

To be honest, I was expecting more of a whodunit-type plot and guessing game, but what I got was a pretty straightforward mystery. The author Nita Prose does a great job of bringing Molly’s neurodivergent personality to life, but I found the character’s naivety frustrating at times, if I’m being honest. However, I will say that I never once lost interest in the story despite this, so I guess it’s still technically a successful page-turner.

Overall it was an engaging and entertaining read with memorable characters, but I would have loved to see more unpredictable plot twists. If you’ve read this, what did you think?

💥𝐓𝐋;𝐃𝐑: This is the perfect book if you want something light and entertaining to read while lounging in the sun. But if you’re expecting serious plot twists, you won’t find them here. 3.5/5
