‘The Ex Talk’ Delivers A Delightfully Modern (And Believable) Rom-Com

‘The Ex Talk’ Delivers A Delightfully Modern (And Believable) Rom-Com

I’ve been itching for a good rom-com and The Ex Talk delivered!

I loved the modern take on the enemies to lovers trope told through the relationship between Shay and Dominic, two public radio co-hosts. The characters were really charming, but Shay in particular was super relatable, especially as she tackled adulthood, her job (and how to separate it from her identity), and her relationships (romantic and otherwise).

It was also super refreshing to read a more realistic portrayal of love. I had actually started reading Love Your Life by Sophie Kinsella before The Ex Talk and had to stop because I got so frustrated with the ridiculously unrealistic storyline (essentially, the protagonist falls in love with a man she knows nothing about after only one week). I’m so glad The Ex Talk was much more believable.

The story also included a diverse cast of characters, which I appreciated, and there were a few steamy scenes that were pleasantly unexpected. I really loved every minute of this book!

💥TL;DR: This book delivers all your rom-com needs: a believable modern love story, relatable characters, and steamy scenes that just might make you blush! 5/5
